Birkeland AS paves the way for the future in Haugaland Næringspark

Construction company Birkeland AS is now in full swing making the road to Statnett's upcoming substation in Haugaland Næringspark.

At the end of April, Birkeland As started work on a new road to Statnett's future substation in Haugaland Business Park. The park's general manager, Tiril Fjeld, describes it as an important milestone.

- The road to Statnett's substation area is the first concrete step in the whole process of bringing more power to the park and the region. "It's great to have a local contractor like Birkeland building the road for us. They know the park from before, do the job properly and have a good focus on progress, quality and HSE.

Technical project manager at the business park, Jarle Haukås, is also very pleased with the work that has started.

- We have good advisors from our contractual partners Sapio, Cowi and Norconsult in connection with construction management, engineering and project management. We're now in a phase where it's important to have efficient and good logistics, as much of the work is happening in parallel. It's great to see good activity in the park," says Haukås.

Long and wide

"Building the new road is no small task," says Sten M. Birkeland, project manager at Birkeland As.

- From the main road in the park, the new road will be a total of 630 meters long - and about 25 meters wide. The first 250 meters will be completed by 15 August, including the water and sewage ditch and cable trench. "It's time and the road, but we're in full swing with cleaning, drilling, blasting, trenching and transporting out stones. There are 14-16 men at work, with four drilling rigs, seven excavators, dump trucks and trucks. "Over 2,000 cubic meters of stone from the road area are transported daily to another part of the business park for grading work there," says Birkeland.

- "The road to Statnett in the business park is a very exciting assignment for us, which will be a very important main route, both for the business park and the rest of the region," says Birkeland.

Statnett in operation over the summer

Over the summer, Statnett will take over and there will be construction work in the area until the substation is completed in 2027.

- The road we're building now will also benefit other players who want to establish themselves in this part of the large business park," says Fjeld.

Haugaland Nærinsgpark is Norway's largest fully regulated business park covering 5,000 acres. When Statnett's substation is completed in 2027, Haugalandet and the entire region will have access to new capacity with power from the Blåfalli hydropower plant in Kvinnherad.
