One step closer to a battery factory

Haugaland Næringspark is part of Panasonic, Hydro and Equinor's process to find a location for their new battery factory venture in Norway.

Panasonic, Hydro and Equinor are planning a large battery factory together in Norway, and before Christmas they invited Norwegian municipalities and regions to submit offers for the location of a potential new factory.

As many as 88 locations throughout Norway have offered locations for the factory establishment, and it was recently announced that Haugaland Næringspark is among the 20 bidders that the three companies will take further in the process.

The general manager of Haugaland Næringspark is very pleased to be involved.

Tiril Fjeld shows where the battery factory in Haugaland Business Park could be located.

- This is of course very gratifying! Haugaland Industrial Park can meet all the needs of the battery factory. We are a 5,000-acre industrial park zoned for just such a purpose, we have the infrastructure in place, and we have a unique location in the middle of a strong industrial region with a lot of relevant expertise and access to labor.

The three companies have estimated that there will be a need for around 2,000 skilled operators and personnel with higher education for the new establishment. The companies will now continue to work on the various options.

- There are many things that will determine what the companies emphasize, but we believe we have a holistic and good solution, and therefore hope to be fully involved," says Fjeld.

Haugaland Næringspark is owned by the five municipalities of Tysvær, Karmøy, Haugesund, Bokn and Vindafjord, and it is a united region that welcomes the establishment of the battery factory.

This entire area in Haugaland Business Park is set aside for a battery factory.
