On Wednesday and Thursday this week, several cooperation agreements were signed between the Netherlands and Norway. Haugaland Næringspark was also invited to a small stakeholder meeting with His Royal Highness King Willem-Alexander.
One of the agreements signed was between Horizon Energy, Tata Steel, Ecolog, Port of Amsterdam, DNB, ABN Amro and Haugaland Næringspark.
Important for CO₂-Hub Gismarvik
- "The collaboration aims to establish a CO₂ corridor between the Netherlands and Norway. The agreement can be an important step on the road to the Gismarvik CO₂ Hub, which is scheduled for completion in 2029," says Tiril Fjeld, general manager of Haugaland Næringspark. The Gismarvik CO₂ Hub is planned to be developed in several stages, with a capacity of up to 24 million tons of CO₂ per year, which corresponds to about half of Norway's annual CO₂ emissions. The Gismarvik CO₂ Hub can play a key role in managing emissions from local industries in Rogaland, helping to secure future operations at the facilities.
Meeting the king
The agreement was signed in connection with King Willem-Alexander's visit to Norway this week. The signing took place in Haakonshallen in Bergen and Tiril Fjeld represented Haugalandet together with the mayor of the host municipality Tysvær, Monika Lindanger. Fjeld was invited with the participants to Oslo for further meetings there. His Royal Highness King Willem-Alexander had also invited Haugaland Næringspark to a smaller stakeholder meeting in Oslo.
- His Majesty was pleasant, knowledgeable and interested. It was a very nice conversation. I would like to thank the Dutch Embassy for great days in Bergen and Oslo with important meetings between industry players in the two countries. The common thread in the conversations was cooperation and shared ambitions to succeed with low-carbon industrial development and energy transformation. We look forward to the further process," says Fjeld.
