At the roundtable conference with Korea

Haugaland Næringspark met this week with Korea's Ministry of Industry and largest battery players together with Beyonder.

KOTRA Stockholm has organized GP Nordic Battery Day since 2021. In March it was held as part of INTER BATTERY in Seoul, and now on April 24-25 it was held for Norway and Sweden in Oslo in collaboration with Innovation Norway and Invest in Norway. Korea and Norway are the leading countries in the secondary battery industry, which is why a roundtable conference was organized in Oslo for the two countries. The aim is to help achieve a carbon-neutral society and a sustainable economy through close cooperation.

Korea was represented by representatives from the Ministry of Trade and Industry in addition to the largest industrial players from the battery value chain, while State Secretary in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries Odd Steinar Viseth represented the Norwegian government. The most important Norwegian battery players were invited to the roundtable, and in addition to Beyonder and Haugaland Næringspark, Battery Norway, Morrow Batteries, Freyr and Vianode also participated.

- Beyonder presented their impressive battery project and how they are looking for partners, including on the supplier side. We also had a good presentation of Haugaland Næringspark, and showed how we are working to attract companies that want to invest in Europe. We have plenty of space and are close to the entire value chain, with a short distance to both Sweden and the rest of Europe," says Tiril Fjeld, General Manager of Haugaland Næringspark.

It turned out that several of the major Korean groups were well acquainted with Haugesund and Haugalandet after collaborating in shipping and offshore.

- "We've already had a good dialogue with Asian stakeholders, and we're definitely finding that they're looking to Europe, and to the Nordic region and Norway. They see that the battery industry is an important focus area for the EU and Norway, that we have a lot of industry they can supply to, but also that they can be part of the entire European value chain. This puts us in a strong position at Haugaland Business Park, with its central location, large areas, ready-made logistics, sufficient power and proximity to major industrial players. We look forward to further dialog," says Fjeld.
