Ølen Betong AS was recently awarded the concrete delivery for one of the country's largest railway projects, Bane Nor's construction of the "New double track Drammen-Kobbervikdalen". The delivery is a collaboration with Hokksund Betong, and amounts to approximately 230,000 cubic meters over three to four years, divided into a six-kilometer long rock tunnel, a culvert and a loose mass tunnel of about one kilometer. Veidekke is the turnkey contractor for the project, and the contract value is over NOK 250 million.
- "This is a long-term job that will give us predictability. Which is particularly gratifying in these times," division manager Stian Berge told Haugesunds Avis. "The project will have a good employment effect for the company throughout the period.
Green innovation award
Ølen Betong has also participated in the development of an innovative method to ensure less waste and more reuse of concrete slurry. Recently, the "Re-Con Zero" project won the construction industry's innovation award.
- "At Ølen Betong, we've been pleased with the Re-Con Zero project, and we want to take this further and adapt it to our other locations. We think about the environment and sustainability in all our processes, which is why this is an important project," Technology Manager at Ølen Betong, Roar Vigre, tells Medvind24.
Every year, around 600 million tons of concrete sludge are produced when washing concrete trucks. With the help of stones and powder in the drum of the concrete trucks, Re-Con Zero ensures that soft residual concrete is converted into dry aggregate. This can then be used as recycled aggregate in new concrete. The process takes no more than five minutes and ensures major reductions in waste management and better utilization of the raw material.
Supports the business park's green focus
- "Ølen Betong was the very first company to set up in Haugaland Business Park back in 2013, and it's incredibly exciting to follow their development, and I know that they have many forward-looking and good projects in the pipeline. Their work with Re-Con Zero fits very well with our focus on circular economy and green business development," says Tiril Fjeld, General Manager of Haugaland Business Park.
