After several years of collaboration on carbon capture and storage (CCS), the industrial collaboration CCS Haugalandet is now taking a new step. At ONS, the news was announced that an expanded partner group is now submitting an application to Gassnova for support for a new project, and at the same time changing its name to CCS Sørvest.
The new partner group represents the entire CCS value chain, with players in CO₂ emissions, transport and storage. The goal is to further develop the collaboration and identify cost-effective solutions for carbon capture and storage, starting from Haugalandet and southwest Norway.
– Southwest Norway has a great need for restructuring. Good solutions for CO2 management are very important both for preserving existing jobs and establishing new ones. I am particularly pleased that several storage licenses want to be part of this collaboration, says Tiril Fjeld, general manager of Haugaland Næringspark and initiator of CCS Sørvest.
Funding is being sought for a feasibility study that will, among other things, look at how regional emissions can be included in a value chain for CO₂ management where storage occurs through direct offshore injection on the Norwegian continental shelf. If support from Gassnova is granted, the project will build on the work that has been carried out through CCS Haugalandet over the past four years, and help strengthen the foundation for future CCS solutions in southwest Norway.
– It is a great pleasure that we are now able to bring together courageous actors across the value chain, to understand each other's challenges and drivers and explore possible solutions together. Our starting point is that only solutions that are profitable for everyone will be realized. We are now seeking support to carry out this work and get closer to finding these solutions, says project manager Karoline Sjøen Andersen.
